“Forgive & love”, urges Kim Phuc on the 40th anniversary of the photo seen around the world

To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the iconic black-and-white photo taken of her during the Vietnam War, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Kim Phuc urges the world to forgive and show love.

I think a lot is done to glorify war, and it’s really terrifying to think about, when one considers it solely involves loss of human life on a grand scale over petty interests. It’s people like Kim who come out of war appearing the strongest, most magnificent individuals: she was forced into involvement with said conflict, and rather than remain bitter, realize that the life it ultimately led to is a precious thing. I don’t think many could walk away with such a positive outlook.
